Ear Wax Removal

Are you experiencing any of the following:

  • A full feeling in the ear?
  • Reduced hearing making sound appear dull and muffled?
  • Mild Tinnitus (ringing or buzzing noises)?

These symptoms could be as a result of excessive ear wax!

Ear wax is very common and naturally produced. It's sole purpose is to moisturise the ear canal and help keep debris from getting deep inside the ear, close to the ear drum.

When excessive wax occurs, blocking ears and impacting received sound quality, it is beneficial to seek wax removal assistance.

The most common and preferred method of wax removal by GP surgeries, is a procedure called Micro-suction. This method involves an initial thorough examination of the ear canal using a binaural microscope with loupes glasses.  Then using a sterile low-pressure suction device, wax will be removed gently and safely.

Most of the time, we can removed wax in an initial appointment. However, there are occasions when it will advised to soften any remaining wax with olive oil before treatment is revisited.

Unless advised otherwise, it is beneficial to administer olive oil drops to the ear requiring suctioning a week before the appointment.

Please get in contact if any wax management guidance is needed.
